What is Daytox?
Daytox is a program for clients who are harmfully involved with substance abuse or gambling but do not require inpatient detoxification.  Daytox is a structured, two week program which offers individual and group support as well as withdrawal management for clients in mild to moderate withdrawal who have a relatively stable environment and supportive social network.  Participants continue to live in the community and attend Daytox for scheduled appointments and group activities.

Daytox staff consists of a Registered Nurse and a Licensed Practical Nurse.  All clients are medically assessed prior to admission by a physician and their withdrawal is medically monitored by trained medical staff.  Nurses in Daytox also initiate withdrawal management protocols as part of their Delegated Medical Functions.

Who can use Daytox?

Daytox is available to adult residents 19 years or older in the Cape Breton District Health Authority & Guysborough Antigonish Strait Health Authority. Clients are assessed on their potential to maintain a stable lifestyle while managing their alcohol or drug withdrawal.
